DRIVING DREAM 1966 21 WINDOW:
Where did it all start?
Who is this guy?
Why should I help?
Whats the deal?
Hello there. My name is Nick and this is where I will update all the wonderful people who are out there helping me with my dream.
In this blog I can be more specific and detailed about why and what. I grew up in a small town in the Midwest. I grew up loving the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and there I had my first encounter with a box shaped vehicle known as the turtle van.
As you can see it really looks similar to the odd shape of the vintage Volkswagen bus. I turned 16 and got my Drivers Licence. I was hooked. My future would never be the same. I started feeling the urge to have my own vehicle just up the road I had a Friend named Nick. Same name and everything. He set out and found a 1971 bay window bus it was beat up but he soon had a cheap paint job and new tires.
It was amazing he tried to help me find a bus of my own. Once I knew what I wanted things started to fall into place. my friend Heath was the one to bring my 1973 vw bus into my life for which I will always be grateful. these photos have been scrapbooked with sublime memorabilia:
I fell in love for the first time I know, most people do not understand. Volkswagen to a real enthusiast is a person a living being. You treat it like part of the family a loved one. I know its a disease and most people start off picking up a bug when contracting it I got hit by a bus. I left home to go out of state and what happens? My Mother sells my heart. just before I got back the guy that bought her tied a rag around a leaking gas hose. boom! I still tried to buy the charred remains to no avail. The junk yard wouldn't sell. so after three more 1973 buses I found that it wasn't the same.
I even drove up to Seattle to get this one and sold it after letting it sit for months. That's my cutie of a wife standing next to it.
After many agonizing hours of thought. I flipped back and forth whether it was worth it to keep this obsession part of my life. It truly takes a certain type of person and a woman who can love unconditionally. I am lucky I found the woman because I just happen to be the lowly creature known as a Volkswagen enthusiast. I decided if I was going to keep the dream alive I would have to go for the holy grail of buses. Now most would view this to be a Barndoor 23window deluxe. Not me I have always wanted a 1966 21 window. I don't know why I am just weird that way. After months of looking I found my dream. It was rusted out and a mess. I payed 2000.oo dollars out of pocket and borrowed another 2000.00 dollars to ship and make up the last part of the purchase price. Then my wife lost her job and my income was cut in half. I also became a full time student and am left without anyway of finishing this dream. I have faced the realization that I need help. I almost sold the dream but my wife refused. She really loves me. so can you help? well let me know at my e-mail. nicksdrivingdream@yahoo.com . stay tuned more to come!!!!!!!!! and thanks for your donations. 5-14dollars= 1sticker, 15+dollars= T-shirt, 50dollars= your sticker in my bus window after resto complete, If you have access to T-shirt making or sticker producing I could use the help. If you have or can hook me up with someone who would like to sponsor the restoration let me know and thank you all really it means a lot.
